I love this song. I love 3/4 time and the lyrics are as dreamy as the melody. I also love those three syllable words at the end of phrases...it rolls you in a gentle way to the next line. A lovely song.
Thank you Judy. I feel like I have to be careful with the waltzes. 3/4 time is where my brain tends to go when I'm just sitting around playing the guitar and humming along without overthinking. They proliferate. Like Tribles! I've even got one called "Another Damn Waltz".
I am a sucker for that time signature. I tend to pull all the waltzes off my favorite albums and load them onto my 'walking exercise' playlist. (sometimes hard to get the heart rate up but there are some lively ones) Please keep waltz writing!
For me, a song/tune always makes its strongest impression on me based on how much it makes me want to grab my guitar and learn it. “Hymn” and “Almost, Almost” definitely did the trick.
Love the fragments - beautiful as they are, even without lyrics. Also I'm intrigued by what a 'Chase Bliss Blooper' is - it sounds amazing!
Almost, Almost captures the essence of a dream really well. It reminds me of a fairy tale: Have you heard of 'East of the Sun, West of the Moon'? (Peasant girl rushes around the world trying to save her princely would-be boyfriend from a wicked troll, but every time she bribes her way in to see him, he is fast asleep - magically of course). Perhaps this song is what the sleeping 'boy-in-distress' is dreaming about through every visit!
I love this post! I have whole hard drives full of snippets! Feel no shame, please! It's kind of like a pantry. I SO like Fragment #1. I hear something totally different than anything I've heard from you in years...It's so open and stable and evocative. That one. And I love Curame for the covers disc. I hope this finds you rested and safe from storms, floods and ridiculously high humidity! Words and Music is a godsend, thanks for these Sunday get togethers! Priceless.
I'm so glad you're here Gary. And thanks for the kind words. Love the pantry image. Could be a concept album, shelf by shelf. Do it! Start with legumes.
"Almost, Almost" is wonderful. So nice to hear your new songs. Thanks also for sharing your song fragments. I like "Fragment 1: Hymn" too. What tuning did you use for that one?
Thanks Peter. Thing is... the "peek" might be part of the process. Posting them this way, they seem to become more real. Farther from nothing. As for betting, you're already $20 bucks ahead ;-)
I hear you about things becoming “more real” when they are shared The distance between an idea that exists in one’s mind, and an idea made manifest — by whatever means, or to whatever degree — seems incalculably vast.
Either way, I’m gonna take that $20 and bet some more!
Love "Almost, Almost" -- and Fragment 2!
Love them all but I especially can't wait to hear the finished hymn to your cat.
Ha!

Love the 'Trouble with Tribbles' Star Trek episode reference..
I love 3/4 time.
The first thing that popped to mind at the opening of The Adapter was hurdy gurdy. Interesting and carnival like, to my ears.
Could be. We know a good hurdy gurdy player in Montreal.

Play on!
Fragment 2 gives me the chills in the best way. Thank you!
Thanks you Jenn. Not sure how to use it yet. But I'll figure it out.

Chase Bliss makes effects pedals. The Blooper is a kind of looper. I do not know that fairy tale. But I recognize the scene.

A legume, I’ve learned is also called a “pulse”.
Checking My Pantry For A Pulse.
Damned poor excuse for a song title.
And this is why I sit on the other side of the stage.
Love the fragments, the bits and pieces, sound and lyric ready to become......
I especially loved Hymn and Almost, Almost. When you finish Hymn, I will sing it to my cat. And what are you embarrassed about? These are gorgeous.

Had to check the tuning. I think it's DADGAD. And the guitar is an 1905 Vega parlor.
Thanks. The guitar sounds great!
I swear those old Vegas are every bit as good as anything that came out of Nazareth or Kalamazoo.
Great song. Very dreamlike but real.
Interesting stuff. “Almost, Almost” brought me to tears. Could be a new classic.
This is a wonderful peek into your process Richard. If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on all three of these.

The next Megamillions jackpot is 1.05 billion. The drawing is tomorrow. So hurry! And remember me.
Yeah, there’ll be a nice finder’s fee, don’t worry ‘bout that.
We did not win.
I really love that Almost chorus and the change in the last line.
Other Blues has a great sound.
Trust the muse ... <g>
