I had the sense that there would be something about this project that would ask us to stretch our definition of Richrd Shindell a little bit. This has a wonderful vibe to it and is certainly a road I'm more than willing to go down with you Richard!
A beautiful mesmerizing song . I read her poem in your earlier post , a gift in these turbulent times . I purchased song in band camp , Any chance song goes on all platforms? gracias
"to say that I still want this". .... Such a difficult decision that we make in this current climate. Gracias por la canción,,,I purchased and joined Bandcamp..... and onward we row.... against the current.....
So excited to see this. And it’s midnight and I have no grasp of musical terminology so I will just have to say it makes a very nice noise and I will buy it when I’m back home and I don’t have to worry about my bank closing my account for violation of international sanctions if I attempt to use my debit card (sadly not a joke).
I can see why you might get stuck on wanting this particular song to do something/anything, because trying to Do Something goes against the spirit of the poem, which is about the sufficiency of a moment separate from any specifics of effort or experience… and yet music is created through effort, and conveys experience. The poem wields silence and music has to break that silence, and there are infinite equal ways to do that and no ways to avoid it.
Right now I’m in Kramatorsk. The frontline is booming away 20km down the road, and about half the place is boarded up. Some people here have already been displaced twice, first from Donetsk in 2014 and then Mariupol in 2022. Nobody stops living because tomorrow might not come.
I was just telling someone yesterday that I feel like a tiny boat lost in a storm with all this awful mess... so I relate. You releasing a song right now gives me hope. Thank you ❤️ Happy to donate... great idea. ❤️

"Us alive right here" I love it! Purchasing today to listen to and appreciate the important things in my life.
The photo at the top of your tour page is amazing. It belongs hanging in a high end gallery. Or my living room.
I joined Substack because of you and now I'm going to have to join Bandcamp.
Just a heads up that I plan on joining the John Phillip Sousa Foundation next.
We have tickets to see you in St. Louis & can’t wait to hear the new music live!
Thanks April.
I enjoyed your "little boat of a song" and why there was a tarrying along the way.
Sounds good to me! We're all hanging in there as best we can.
