I’ve always loved this rendition. Also the song’s bravado dismissal of the obvious heartache: “Now she’s gone but I don’t worry, cause I’m sittin’ on top of the world.” As if.
I love everything you've written here. and what a great quizzical thought (at least for me at this second): "the purpose of desire." I wish I could use it as the title for a painting. I miss attending your concerts.
I'd love that. If you're in New York anytime between October 17 and November 16, I'm having a show of paintings at Hollis Taggart. If you can visit, please let me know and i'll come meet you. And if you're in Philly you're welcome here.
A JACKPOT OF A POST! Tix in NH, a favorite guitar and cool tunes! Thank you for all this. Back in the Guitar Gallery days, some kid brought in a guitar he had found up on a beam in his grandfathers barn. It had been there for a very long time from the looks of it. It was a Dano , bronze colored with a single lipstick pickup. ...He asked if we could get it working. The layers of dust and bird poo were daunting but I asked him to leave it and I'd do what I could. All pretty straightforward, a thorough cleaning, much like wiping up an exceptionally dirty formica counter, then cleaned the neck, polishing frets, polishing the metal work, oiling tuners and taking a peek inside and OMG it's pine! Clean the pots and the jack, changed the strings and by god it sounded amazing. The world needs more of these things! That was one very happy kid! Cant wait to see /hear you in NH.
I hate to do this but I gotta: you probably are a snob about your Blackwing stationery; the stationery is probably stationary unless you carry it around, in which case only as stationary as you are.... So glad we have straightened out whether I should envy Portland or Portsmouth residents — come back to Beacon soon please!
I know how you feel Nancy, I'm a spelling snob but wondered if it was a US English v English English thing. 'e' is for envelope, 'a' (in my mnemonics - is for 'arrete' meaning stop). Wish I could get past this stuff but Miss Ashcroft left her primary school teaching mark. I can do apostrophes too but noone cares any more 😢
As someone who has tried (incredibly briefly) therapy with a Lacanian practitioner, I howled with laughter. Thanks.
Hi Danny. "Incredibly briefly"...ha!
Tiny Desk Concerts are always so wonderful. I’ve discovered so many new artists, and also heard old favorites in new ways.
Love your $5 guitar! and the rendition of this wonderful song...
Great version of a great song. Many versions have been recorded. This is one of the very best.
Portsmouth, NH, not Portland, ME. I have tickets and can't wait!
Fixed. Thanks.
Now it says “Portland, NH”. It’s Portsmouth, not Portland.
Oh dear.
Truly glorious sound and playing!
Chills!
Jeez, I always had you pegged as a stationery snob!
Wishing David the best of luck on his exams.
Thanks for the story and the SONG

We have tickets for the Iron Horse. So psyched - but not by Lacan.

Thanks Bill. You can use it! Knock yerself out. And let's meet up in the Fall.

Portsmouth NH and, sadly, NOT Portland ME.

Sorry Richard, the song and sound are superb 👍
