I’ve written a few paragraphs to accompany this song. But it might be better to let it speak for itself, at least for now. I’ll only say that this one has been around for a few years, and that I was never happy with one of the verses - probably why I never recorded it. Having this weekly deadline motivated me to find a solution and get it into decent demo shape.
Thanks for listening.
Did I Hear Wrong?
I finally found a cool patch of sand
I finally found a cool patch of sand
But it won’t last long
The sun’ll move
and we’ll move too
My name is mine
You can't have it for your song
My name's my own
You can't have it for your song
Don’t talk to me of choices
We only did what we had to do
I hear that's freedom over there
Freedom over there
Or did I hear wrong?
Six empty jugs
see there... that’s where the water ran
Six empty jugs
Right there... that’s where the water ran
It was kindness that filled them
But hatred poured them out again
I hear that’s mercy over there
right over there
Or did I hear wrong?
What's wrong with you?
What on earth is wrong with you?
What is wrong with you?
What in God's name's wrong with you?
For threatening my baby
For taking her water
What is wrong with you?
I hear that’s freedom over there
Freedom over there
Or did I hear wrong?
I heard that’s mercy over there
Mercy over there
Or did I hear wrong?
I hear that’s freedom over there
Just over there
Or did I hear wrong?
Beautiful. Very moving.
Richard, it's gorgeous - Stunning.--
