Let’s Build A Fire
And Fall arrives as if out of the blue
You’d think at this point we would know
All of the ways Summer tells us it’s time
To think of putting away
The flimsy clothing, the aluminum chairs
One ice-cube melting in the wine
Your wide-brim sun hat, my espadrille slides
And all our acting as if
This lazy season will go on forever
And the window’s not whistling
Cold on the way
But clearly the daylight is not what it was
I know it’s early
Barely October
But let’s build a fire
And watch it burn
And when it freezes that stray will appear
Posing her question from the sill
We will agree then to not let her in
Later, you know that I will
There’s no resisting, there’s no going back
Though we are given to forget
Perhaps forget isn’t quite the right word
Let’s call it acting as if
This lazy season will go on forever
And the window’s not whistling
Change on the way
But clearly the daylight is not what it was
I know it’s early
Barely October
But let’s build a fire
And watch it burn

An interesting seasonal trip full circle. Many of us were introduced to you via “Are You Happy Now” on Christine Lavin’s “When October Goes” compilation. And now it’s barely October. This is lovely. Wonderful to hear new music from you.
THANK YOU!
